Prescription Help
Why We Need a Prescription
Oxygen is a medical therapy. The wrong flow rate or device type can be ineffective — or in some cases, harmful. A prescription tells us exactly what your physician has determined is right for you, so we can match you to the correct equipment and settings. It's also how we stay compliant with Health Canada and provincial regulations governing the sale of medical oxygen.
Which Products Require a Prescription?
A prescription is required for:
- All portable oxygen concentrators (POCs)
- All stationary/home oxygen concentrators
- Any oxygen equipment where the flow rate or duration of use is clinically prescribed
A prescription is not required for:
- Cannulas, masks, and tubing
- Humidifier bottles, adapters, and accessories
- Filters, carry cases, and replacement parts
What Needs To Be On Your Prescription
- Your full legal name
- Your date of birth
- Prescribed oxygen flow rate (LPM) and/or target oxygen saturation level
- Whether continuous flow or pulse dose is prescribed (if specified)
- Duration of need (eg: 24 hours/day, nighttime only, as needed)
- Date of issue — must be within the past 12 months
- Your prescribing physician's full name, clinic name, phone number, and signature
Where To Send Prescription
Send a clear photo or scan to hello@homeoxygensolutions.ca with your order number in the subject line.
What Happens After You Send It?
Step 1: We log it against your order, usually within an hour during business hours.
Step 2: Our team verifies it against the requirements above. If anything's missing, we email you.
Step 3: If we need to confirm something with your physician, we contact them directly — you don't have to play phone tag.
Step 4: Once verified, we charge your card and prepare your order for shipment.
Step 5: You'll receive an email the moment it ships, with tracking.
How Long Do I Have To Send The Prescription?
You can place your order first and send the prescription afterward. We hold orders for 1 week — long enough to chase down paperwork without surprising you with a stale authorization. If we don't receive a valid prescription within that window, we'll release the payment authorization and email you to let you know.
Frequently Asked Prescription Questions
My prescription is older than 12 months. Will it still work?
Most oxygen prescriptions need to be current. Reach out — we'll often help you arrange a quick renewal with your physician.
Can my doctor send the prescription directly?
Absolutely. Have them email hello@homeoxygensolutions.ca with your order number.
I don't have a flow rate listed — just a "supplemental oxygen" note. Is that enough?
We'll need a flow rate (LPM) or a saturation target so we can match you to the right device. Email us a photo of what you have and we'll let you know what to ask your physician for.
Is my prescription information stored securely?
Yes. We store prescription documents in encrypted, access-controlled systems consistent with HIA and provincial health information legislation. Only authorized staff can view them.
